Pies, Pies and more Pies

Today I made pies, pies, and more pies. If it was up to my family they would have me make so many pies, but this year I told them I would only make five.
This is what they chose:
Two cherry cream cheese
Banana cream
Peach
Pumpkin
I was to tired to go down to the basement to take pictures of the cream pies that are in the refrigerator, so you will just have to look at my pumpkin and peach. They turned out perfect! Hopefully they will taste just as good as they look tomorrow.

Thankful & Grateful

At this time of year I am especially thankful and grateful for so many things in my life. I could name so many, many things, but I thought I would just write down a few of them. I have been kind of down lately not being able to be with family for the holidays, but then I remember that I have been blessed beyond measure for so many good things that it brings everything back into perspective for me.

3. Doug, for his love and support and how hard he works to provide for us.
4. Jessica my first born, who is talented in so many things.
5. Hunter who is very unselfish and loving.
6. Spencer who makes me laugh daily.
7. Taylor who loves mom, dad & life.
8. My parents for raising me in the gospel and teaching me correct principles.
9. Doug's parents for raising such a righteous son.
10. Family - all of my extended family
11. A Forever Family
12. Temples and being worthy to attend them.
13. Friends - you know who you are.
14. My calling in Young Women's
15. The Young Women - I never thought I could ever love these girls as much as I truly do.

On Tuesday, Jessica and I were driving to an appointment and we were talking about all of the canning I had been doing. She asked "Mom, will you teach me how to can?" I responded of course, I had been wanting to do some jam, with the berries that I have frozen. So are asked her if she would like to can some jam? We decided to do it yesterday after school.
I taught her two different methods: First we made Raspberry Freezer Jam
Second: We cooked & made Blackberry Jam
Jessica stirring the jam while sitting on the counter, which she know she is not allowed to sit on.
Ladling the jam into the jars. Cleaning of the rims and putting on the lid & ring. Turning them upside down. Finished product: 9 jars of Blackberry jam
Time with my daughter: priceless How many teenagers do you know that ask there mother's to teach them how to can? Jessica said" She wanted to learn, because she will need to know how to do it when she is a mother." She also is going to use it as one of her young women projects. I had fun teaching and speding time in the kitchen with her. She will now be able to pass this knowledge on to her children one day.

Bottling Butter

Our Relief Society President sent the weekly R.S. announcements and on the email was a link to this blog Green Apple Orchard. It shows you step by step on how to can butter. Yes I said butter. I got the itch and on Wed. I canned 6 pounds of butter and ended up with 15 half pint jars. It was so easy that on Thursday I decided to can more. Kroger had a good sale on butter, $1.70 a pound. I did 18 pounds more of butter. I ended up with 45 more jars. In total I canned 60 jars of butter in two days. It only took a couple of hours each day.

Here is the starting of melting the butter.
The butter in the jars needing a good shake.
The jars of butter cooling in the refrigerator.
The finished product. This was the first day, I did not take pictures of the second day when I did 45 jars. I should have, was just to tired to find the camera. I recommend you trying this. If you have any questions give me a call it really was very easy to do. My next adventure is to can ground turkey and chicken. Wish me luck I have not done this by myself, but have been taught how to do it, but it was five years ago.
